Wow just spotted this lovely Queen Trigger Fish
I’ve just been snorkeling and spotted this lovely Queen Trigger Fish. She was quite small, only around 8” long, but was an adult; they can grow up to 16” long when fully grown. The fish was foraging for food. Their favorite dish is sea urchins. I was very lucky to get so close and observe her feeding. Normally they are quite shy, but this fish let me take lots of photos. It was great! Queen Trigger Fish have the ability to pale or darken their coloring dramatically, and almost instantly. A juvenile fish is silver to gray in color with yellowish tints. Adults are various shades of purple, blue, green, or turquoise. The lower half of the head is always yellow. Adult fish generally swim around reef tops, coral rubble and grass beds looking for food. Juveniles stay near protective recesses in areas of sand and rubble. These fish are relatively shy and usually difficult to approach, although occasionally they appear curious and swim near to divers. I was very lucky today that this fish allowed me to observe her having dinner at such a close distance. The Caribbean is home to the most diverse fish in the world. Check out this Scrawled Filefish.
