The U.S. Virgin Islands form a territory pertaining to the United States which lies between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The three islands were formerly known as the Danish West Indies. With the British Virgin Islands, which are located to the northeast, the Islands form the Virgin Islands archipelago.
Saint Thomas, the capital of the USVI boosts one of the finest natural deep water harbours in the whole of the Caribbean. The terrain of the islands is mostly hilly and mountainous with few flat spaces. The highest point of the USVI is Crown Mountain which peaks at 474m.
If you decide to include the USVI in your itinery, you will find most locally based yachts include the customs & immigration fees within the crewed USVI yacht charter rate and also offer a free ship’s bar.
US Virgin Islands
The added bonus for US residents travelling to the USVI is there are plenty of direct flights to St Thomas (a duty free Island) where your charter yacht can be ready for boarding just 10 minutes away by taxi from the airport.
Normally you would then cruise from St Thomas stopping at the beautiful island of St John enjoying its marine park enroute to the British Virgin Islands.
The majority of charter yachts do not visit the third island, St Croix.
